Former Fischer rumours revealed as flops
In an interview on 28th January 2002 with the Icelandic television Fischer denies he played GM Nigel Short or anyone else on the internet. This way Fischer helped to reveal former rumours stating he played on the internet as untrue. In fact, it was a Canadian network expert posing as the former world champion. He played many games with his multi processor engines on Internet Chess Club (ICC) against titled players. Below you can find some of them.

Even GM Nigel Short (ICC handle NDShort) believed the wrong stories. He wrote an article appearing in the London Daily Telegraph (Review section) for Sunday, September 9, 2001. There he described his encounters on Internet Chess Club (ICC) with a player who he believed was Bobby Fischer. The story appeared on CNN Headline News TV, and a number of other outlets.
